Captain Tommy Benton
Captain Tommy Benton joined Thomasville Fire Rescue in 1986. He was promoted to Engineer in 1992, Lieutenant in 1998 and Captain in 2003. Captain Benton is currently the A-Shift Supervisor.
Special assignments Captain Benton has performed over his career include: Co-chairman for Thomasville Fire Rescue’s involvement with the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation in 1996-1997, promotional committee member and hiring committee member. Captain Benton has also served with the Boston Volunteer Fire Department, Thomas County Bike Team and with Grady County EMS.
Some of Captain Benton’s training and achievements include Georgia EMT-I since 1993, Thomasville Firefighter of the Year in 1996 and 2005, National Professional Qualifications Instructor I, Mountain Bike Officer Course, Wildland Firefighter. Captain Benton obtained Public Pension Trustee Certification in 2002 and has attended the Affiliate Leadership Summit.
Captain Benton is a member of IAFF Local 2084. He served as the secretary/treasurer in 1998-2006 and is currently serving as union secretary in the 11th year. Captain Benton is also a member of the Georgia State Firefighters Association.
